Georgetown Loop Railroad
The Georgetown Loop Railroad - completed in 1884 - was considered an engineering marvel with its 3.1 miles of narrow gauge track, gaining an elevation of 640 feet. Along the journey from Georgetown to Silver Plume, the train rolls along horseshoe curves, and crosses four bridges over Clear Creek. Visitors can also tour the historic 1870s Lebanon Silver Mine at the halfway point of the trip.
Be sure to tour the 1884 train depot and the 1871 mill building at the Georgetown Loop Historic Mining & Railroad Park after your excursion, to complete your railroad experience. Become a guest of Best Western hotels in nearby Dillon along the beautiful Lake Dillon Reservoir. Enjoy your journey in the Denver area.
