Visiting the Denver Metro Area
As tempertatures begin to drop, the fun doesn’t stop in the Denver area. In the city and throughout nearby forests, state parks, and national parks, the opportunities for outdoor activities are endless – no matter the temperature – and the people of the Mile High City invite visitors to celebrate the season with a variety of special events, festivals, and family-friendly fun.
Winter Park and Boulder residents enjoy especially easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park. Cover the most ground by packing up the car and taking in the awe-inspiring beauty of the park on a driving tour. Even from downtown Denver, the drive is only an hour and a half, and the opportunity to hike along the park’s 300-plus miles of trails amid such breathtaking beauty is well worth the time.
Denver residents and visitors can offset that big Thanksgiving meal by joining in the 42nd Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot, November 26th. Thousands are expected make their way to Washington Park, where they’ll choose between the four-mile run and quarter-mile fun run to raise money for childhood literacy. The festivities start at 10 a.m. and are also set to include a beer garden, music, vendor booths, and more.
To the northwest, Boulder residents get into the spirit of the season with a holiday staple. The 2016 Lights of December Parade brings floats, marching bands, fire engines, carolers, and more to downtown Boulder on December 5th. Get there early to claim the best spot – the parade starts moving at 6 p.m.
Further east in Glenwood Springs, the coming winter means it’s almost time to strap on the skis and hit the slopes of Sunlight Mountain. On December 11th, the 2016 Sunlight Mountain Opening Day celebration invites skiers and snowboarders to check out the fresh powder for the first time, and the season is expected to stretch into early April.
It’s an exciting time of year for sports fans throughout the Denver Metro Area. The Denver Broncos look to maintain dominance over the NFL’s competitive AFC West division. Check the schedule and witness the action at Sports Authority Field – the Broncos’ 2016 season goes through January 1st.
With so many ways to get out and get active throughout the region, you’ll certainly earn the right to indulge a little, and the 2016 Indulgence Festival makes it easy on February 6th. It’s a culinary festival held at the Broadmoor International Center in Colorado Springs, featuring delicious desserts, wines, brews, confections, and other delicacies. Come hungry and wear a belt with a couple extra holes – things get cooking at 6 p.m.
