Visiting the Denver Metro Area
Summertime in the Mile High City means all kinds of outdoor fun in some of the most beautiful weather the region sees all year. Nearby, Rocky Mountain National Park is at its most welcoming, and the people of Denver-area communities from Aurora to Colorado Springs and all the way to Glenwood Springs are gearing up for all kinds of family-friendly fun.
Pack up the car and embark on a scenic summer driving tour to experience some of the most beautiful corners of the country. It's not just in Rocky Mountain NP, but also in other parks and destinations like Castlewood Canyon State Park, the Castle Rock Historical Society & Museum, and countless others. Along the way, communities like Castle Rock, Burlington, and Sterling make ideal stopping points.
Late-summer travelers will want to find themselves in Castle Rock when the 2016 Douglas County Fair fills the Douglas County Fairgrounds with midway rides and games, two stages of entertainment, three rodeos, exhibits, and plenty of fried food, August 10th through the 13th.
Others will skip the fried Twinkies and funnel cake for the ultimate test – 2016 IRONMAN Boulder Triathlon. Held August 7th, the event’s three-challenge course weaves through Boulder’s downtown college scene before taking participants along scenic Rocky Mountain stretches. Register now or cheer on finishers along Pearl Street come race day.
The cold Rocky Mountain conditions are known for being just right for beer brewers, and on August 6th, America the Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs hosts a celebration of local suds. The 2016 Springs Beer Festival festivities include specialty food offerings, live music, and plenty of frothy drinks.
Still got room? Check out A Taste of Colorado 2016 at the Downtown Denver Civic Center Park. From September 2nd through 5th, hundreds of local purveyors will gather to offer unique and tasty culinary creations to curious festival goers. There will also be entertainment on five stages. Skip breakfast and come hungry – things get cooking at 10 a.m. each day.
