Colorado Mesa University

Established in 1925 as Mesa State College, Colorado Mesa University is a public institution, a short drive from nearby Clifton, and is situated on a charming northern Colorado campus of just over 78 acres. CMU offers students a variety of two-year associates degrees, four-year bachelors degrees, and even masters programs. 

Some of the CMU campus highlights include the Tomlinson Library, Moss Performing Arts Center, and Lowell Heiny Hall. CPRA Finals

Taking place annually in September, the Colorado Professional Rodeo Association Finals (CPRA Finals) are held at the Mesa County Fairgrounds, on the south side of Grand Junction near Clifton.

This fan-favorite northern Colorado event features three jam-packed days of rodeo excitement, including tie-down roping, mixed-team roping, breakaway roping, open-team roping, ladies barrel racing, bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, and saddle bronc riding.

Enjoy autumn in its finest in Grand Junction at the fairgrounds. Not only is it fun to watch, but it also helps a great cause – the proceeds from the rodeo benefit the volunteer based Mesa County Sheriff's Posse, a search and rescue group.

Fort Uncompahgre Living History Museum

Established in 1826 as fur trading post, Fort Uncompahgre Living History Museum in Delta recreates the experience of the fur trading in the west during the early 19th century. Museum staff – dressed in period attire – lead a hands-on tour where visitors can participate in the recreation or just listen to the tour.

While in southern Colorado, be sure to visit the Dry Mesa Quarry. It's one of the "most famous dinosaur localities in the world" and where archeologists first discovered Ultrasaurus and Brachiosaurus bones. 

Grand Junction Regional Airport

Established in 1932, the Grand Junction Regional Airport serves areas around the city of Grand Junction, including northern Colorado cities of Clifton, Loma, and Fruita. The on-site Colorado Flight Center provides charted flights, flight training, and an aircraft rental facility.

Travelers in need of a commercial flight can choose one of the five commercial airlines to fly to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, Salt Lake City, Houston, Denver, and Phoenix. The convenient parking and rental car agencies are additional conveniences provided by the airport.

Grand Mesa National Forest

Encompassing over 346,000 acres, the Grand Mesa National Forest includes most of Grand Mesa and a portion of Battlement Mesa. Grand Mesa is world's largest flat-top mesa, measuring approximately 500 square miles. The highest elevation on the mesa is at Crater Peak, reaching 11,333 feet.

Located along the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in southern Colorado, the forest offers an abundance of recreational activities including, camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and even alpine skiing at Powderhorn Resort.

Museum of Western Colorado

Located in scenic Grand Junction in northern Colorado, the Museum of Western Colorado features thousands of years of western frontier history. The museum, just minutes from Clifton, features hands-on exhibits allowing visitors to step back into history, like the 1958 Cessna from Walker Field.
