Dinosaur National Monument

Dinosaur National Monument

Dinosaur National Monument

Sitting on 210,000 acres, Dinosaur National Monument is a famed U.S. National Park, located in the northwestern corner of the state.

The park draws in thousands of annual visitors given it houses a collection of dinosaur fossils and dinosaur bones.

Explore the park's far reaches via an abundance of hiking trails, auto tours, fishing areas, or learn about the park's prehistoric past at the Dinosaur Quarry Exhibit Hall.

Whether you enjoy a float trip down the Green River or Yampa River, go on an afternoon hike or go on a ranger-led hike to view dinosaur bones, there's plenty to do.

Elkhead State Park

Established in 2007, Elkhead State Park is located just west of Hayden in northern Colorado. Home to a 900-acre reservoir, known as an "oasis in the high desert", at an elevation of 6,365 feet, the park is great for fishing, swimming, boating, and water skiing.

The park's eight miles of trails are great for a day of biking, hiking, or horseback riding through the park. Be sure to bring your binoculars for bird watching, or take a break at one of the 20 picnic areas located throughout the park.

The Museum of Northwest Colorado

Established in 1964, the Museum of Northwest Colorado houses wonderful exhibits of southern Colorado history, including old photos, the Moffat Road Railroad Display, and the Cowboy and Gunfighter Museum. This cowboy museum has over 900 cowboy artifacts collected over the last 50 years.

Stop by the museum Gift Shop to purchase an old photo or have the staff help with genealogy research. While in Craig, visit the Craig city park to tour the "Marcia Car" – a completely restored train car from the Denver & Rio Grande Western line.
