The Argo Gold Mine, Mill and Museum - a National Historic Site - features the famed Argo Tunnel. First constructed in 1893. Dillon Reservoir

Known also as Dillon Lake, Dillon Reservoir is owned and operated by Denver Water. Dillon Reservoir straddles the towns of Dillon, where it is located, and Frisco Bay. The reservoir was created 1963 as an earth dam to divert water from the Blue River Basin. In order for the dam to be constructed the entire town of Dillon had to be relocated, thus its name of Dillon Reservoir.

Dillon Reservoir’s approximately twenty seven miles of shoreline can be accessed by boat via marinas in both Dillon and Frisco Bay. The speed limit for boats traveling on the reservoir is thirty miles per hour. Boats, kayaks and other watercraft are available for rent, however swimming and water skiing are not permitted. The lands surrounding the reservoir offer beautiful scenery and an opportunity to enjoy nature with hiking and biking available in the summer and ice fishing and hunting in the winter months. Dillon is easily accessible from many locations due to its close proximity to the Denver area.

Georgetown Loop Railroad

The Georgetown Loop Railroad - completed in 1884 - was considered an engineering marvel with its 3.1 miles of narrow gauge track, gaining an elevation of 640 feet. Along the journey from Georgetown to Silver Plume, the train rolls along horseshoe curves, and crosses four bridges over Clear Creek. Visitors can also tour the historic 1870s Lebanon Silver Mine at the halfway point of the trip.

Be sure to tour the 1884 train depot and the 1871 mill building at the Georgetown Loop Historic Mining & Railroad Park after your excursion, to complete your railroad experience.
