Visiting Northern Colorado

Northern Colorado, Famous for its mountains and winter sports, offers much more to residents and visitors. From the wide open plains of the northeast, past the well know beauty of the front range, to the western mesas and plateaus, there is a lot to discover and enjoy.

In the northwest, there are over 150 fairs, rodeos, events and celebrations to enjoy spring and summer. For example, take mom to the spring Mother's Day Arts and Crafts Bazaar in Craig, on May 1st. Memorial Day weekend is the 20th annual celebration of Grand Olde West Days in and around Craig. Come enjoy an event filled weekend of fun and activity. The Downtown Street Fest will be in full swing on Monday, weekend events include the tractor pull, carnival, cowboy action shoot and much more. Bring the family and kick off the summer right.

Northeastern Colorado has an abundance of wildlife and is home to the largest migrating elk herds in the country. On June 12th Fort Morgan sponsors the 2010 Windmill Century Classic, a multiple event bicycle ride through the area's beautiful outback. Spot the wildlife as you enjoy a 100 mile, 60 mile or 40 mile ride.

Fort Collins, in the front range in north-central Colorado, is an urban and educational center for the region. Home of Colorado State University, there is a diversity of happenings to enjoy. Cinco de Mayo is on the list, with a community celebration in Old Town and the Cinco-Cinco 5K Walk/Run and Kids Fun Run. This is May 1st at the University oval, there will be drawings for all participants, so regardless of your time, you may be a winner.

Serious runners can participate in the Colorado Marathon on May 9, 2010. This is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon and is know and America's most scenic course. Events also include a half-marathon, point-to-point 5K and 10K. Lots of opportunities if a marathon is too much. All events are held around Fort Collins, check for details on your specific race.

Nearby in Estes Park, the Estes Park Jazz Fest and Art Walk is held mid-May. This popular springtime festival kicks off summer with terrific music and art. Wander through local galleries, take in the music and relax for a meal at one of the fine local restaurants. Estes Park also hosts one of North America's largest all-natural fiber markets, the Estes Park Wool Market. In its 20th year, the mid-June event draws thousands of visitors for competitions, markets for wool products and animals and exhibits.
